Key Responsibilities:
As a Landfill Gas Technician, you’ll play a key role in monitoring and maintaining landfill gas systems, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with environmental standards. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems, including wells, flares, and blowers, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections, troubleshoot issues, and repair landfill gas system components as needed.
- Perform gas sampling and analysis to assess system performance and identify potential improvements.
- Maintain detailed records of gas monitoring data, equipment maintenance, and repairs.
- Collaborate with environmental engineers and team members to optimize gas collection efficiency.
- Supervise and participate in on-site construction projects.
- Perform general plant maintenance and site upkeep.
- Assist with utilization plant operations and maintenance as required.
Qualifications:
You thrive on problem-solving, love the outdoors, and are mechanically inclined. You have:
- A diploma from an accredited Civil or Environmental Technology program, a degree in Environmental Sciences, or certification from a Gas Technician program.
- 1–3 years of experience in landfill gas management or a related field.
- Fieldwork experience, including hands-on environmental sampling, construction supervision, and mechanical maintenance/troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of landfill gas collection systems, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and proficiency with monitoring equipment and software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to:
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Perform tasks that involve working at heights, confined spaces, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
Position Details:
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30 am – 5:00 pm), with on-call rotation every 4 weeks
- Travel: On-call work in the Niagara region and Southern Ontario
- Reporting: Reports to the Supervisor of Niagara Wellfield Operations
- Transportation: Onsite vehicle available to use during work day.
